One critic's take on Nuestro Himno: "I think the national anthem ought to be sung in English and I think people who want to be a citizen of this country ought to learn English and they ought to learn to sing the national anthem in English."
-- President George "Whitey" Bush

How pathetic.

It seems like the only Bush Leaguer with the cujones to appreciate the anthem is the Cabinet Secretary who, physiologically, lacks them.

Gabe is in Italy right now. I'm pretty sure if he started walking around italy with an american flag demanding his "rights" and looking for free public education in english w/o paying much in the way of taxes and started started belting out the italian anthem in ingles he wouldn't be well received Mr. Piano. What do you think? And when I go to Portgual this summer and do the same, they'll probably call me an "ugly american." We all know why big business embrace illegals....they're easily exploited. we all know why the left is embracing them.....they're votes are easily exploited. get over it. this isn't about george w. bush. it is about a rational policy. let's put the rhetoric aside for once everyone and decide A) is there a problem? B) what is it? C) what is a practical solution that respects national sovereignty an human dignity?

I'm sick of the typical Washington spin. I can tell you what almost any politician will say about any issue even though there is no cohesiviness to what most politicians think. ram

I do love it when ya get all riled up, ram. I'd like to put the rhetoric aside, too. It's hard when Bush (about whom this string started) spouts such devisive rhetoric. But, yes -- ahem -- rational policy and all that.

A) is there a problem? Only if you respect the law. The impact of illegal immigration on our economy is a trifle when compared to the impact of free trade. We export a lot more jobs than we give to the illegals. Still, I'm not a big fan of amnesty because, primarily, it's amnesty for the employers. Sure, hire and exploit all the illegals you want, and we'll reward you.

B) what is it? Corporate malfeasance and political collusion.

C) what is a practical solution that respects national sovereignty an [sic] human dignity? Damned if I know. But if some Latinos want to sing a song to try and draw attention to the issue, that's fine by me.

yeah, i don't think bush should've even commented on that. i'm sure helen thomas or somebody asked him though and that's why he peaped up. if you want to sing spanish songs, it's american baby, they can do it all day long but it doesn't advance anything. i think free trade was bad. ross perot was the only one who know what he was talking about. the only thing i agreed with john kerry on was tax incentives to keep jobs in america. i just didn't believe he would actually do that once in office. i'm leaning toward amnesty and then beefed up border patrol and strict enforcement of existing laws once amnesty in in place. i am also willing to hear arguments about that we should change the law where you are automotically a citizen by birth, but i'm not sure what the alternative would be. this would prevent people from crossing the border just to give birth at an american hospital. piano, you got my panties in a wad! gooing to any ND games next year?
