Cheney Commits Attempted Homicide
I am sure all you 2GL readers know about this story, but I thought I would post it anyway. As if the Bush Administration did not have enough to deal with, the VP, in very Dan Quayle fashion, shoots a friend on a hunting trip. I grew up with hunting rifles and shotguns in the house. I also enjoy hunting and the outdoors. The first thing you EVER think about when guns are around is safety. That is always rule #1 and one practiced by all responsible hunters. The fact that the veep would allow this guy to be in his line of fire is absurd and extremely irresponsible. Seriously, when things like this happen, as they do every year, the first thing I say after I read the article is "what an idiot".

Was the Dan Qualye pun intended? I mean it did happen when they were hunting quail.
At first unintended, now intended. Or something like that, what say you abe?
NGL, your comments about hunting safety and common sense mark the first time I've ever agreed with you. However, the VP did nothing wrong. His buddy went out in a field unannounced and wasn't visible when the shot was fired. Hopefully he invited Hillary out hunting next and is a better shot.
Signed,
No Longer a Texas
Too crude, anon. It was an unfortunate accident that makes me think no better or worse of Cheney. Actually, it would be hard to think worse of him -- he hit the basement years ago. But that has nothing to do with his handling a shotgun.
Ram, we've reported on lesser important events... including anything involving Notre Dame.
This is not a non-story. Call me callous, but I think it's effing hilarious.
Wonkette has been awesome:

Anon, definitely correct, protocol required Whittington to announce his plan to walk away from the line of hunters. I agree this is a non-issue. I did speak to my mother yesterday, a working class, Hispanic woman and old school Democrat. She believes Cheney did it on purpose.(what!?) I, of course, explained to her the absurdity of that position. She wouldn't budge. Looks like the GOP has much, much work to do to get that minority vote.
still a non-story?

Ram, I'm not sure what working definition of a "story" you're using.
from the dictionary:
story--an account or recital of an event or a series of events, either true or fictitious.
"Stories" are reported not only about turmoils in the middle east but about the President's daughters, his dog, his obsession for fitness, his thoughts on religion, his fondness for the Texas Rangers, and even his well-known penchant for buggery.
So I don't get it, my friend, when you say that when a man is shot in the face by the Veep of the United States--a man a heartbeat away from the most powerful position in the world--that this "isn't a story."
It is a "story" in the traditional sense: it has a beginning (old men go hunting with guns), a middle (old men have fun, shoot at birds, but one man is shot in face by the VP), a climax (VP doesn't tell the public for 21 hrs), and now the ending (which at this point, is still playing out)...
It may not have the stature of Brokeback Mountain, but it at least is worthy of an "after-school special" at this point, with the moral of the "story" being "you never know when the VP of the US will shoot you in the face"!

rudy: it's not a story in the newsworthiness sense of the word. neither would be pieces about bush's love of dogs or your love for getting but slammed by 3GL and abe. ram
How can this not be newsworthiness? The job of the press is to uncover half truths, lies or other unknown information. They do this by questioning an elected administration. You know, the folks that are accountable to me, you and every other American. The problem with you anonymous, is that you watch Fox News. That is what Fox News has probably said a thousand times in the last few days. But hey, it looks like it worked, we are now debating the issue of liberal media and not the shooting, dog gonnit, you Republicans got us again.
I'm sure it's not just Republicans that are calling this story non-newsworthy.
Also, hilarious paragraph by rudy. A comment about Brokeback Mountain and "getting shot in the face" in the same paragraph.
it is funny bulldoza that you say it is the media's job to uncover stories, but this is the same media that cried like little pathetic babies when cheney didn't come out with a press conf. the minute she shot his friend in the face. i could care less about this. why didn't the media question how bill clinton hurt himself so badly by getting drunk at greg norman's house? or about the clinton administration's little episdoe with guns and vince foster? it took rush limbaugh to shed light on that. all the administration did was make sure they took the issue of atotrney client privelege and how it survives the client's death to the SCOTUS. so don't lecture me about anything!

Uh oh... someone fetch ram his tinfoil hat. The crazy Clinton gamma rays are starting to affect his brain. Calm down, my friend. No, Clinton did not shoot Vince Foster - in the face or anywhere else. There was no See Oh Enn Spiracy.
Oh, c'mon ram -- Rush Limbaugh has never shed light on squat.
I thought Clinton did not drink because his stepfather was an alcoholic? Those are the facts as I know them. Facts arm, are the real world events that are truth. There are such things and not everything can be discredited by el rushbo. btw, do you still consider yourself a libertarian? Ha, biggest joke I have ever heard in my entire existence.
