TWO GOOD LEGS

Hello 2006

I'll be 32 this year. The Democrats will recover Congress. I'll welcome a new nephew or niece. Notre Dame will have a solid shot at the national title. A sister may move to Chicago. Some folks I know will become engaged. A few more gray hairs will show up.

Here's hoping your past 365 days were prosperous and happy, and here's wishing you a happy New Year.

Notre Dame win a national title? That's almost as funny as your first prediction. Have a happy '06 anyway.

Sorry, Rock -- I won't let your sour-puss simperings cast a shadow over the reverie. Bug off.

When I turned 32 (ah, back in the day), Ronald Reagan had just started his second term. I thought things were bad then, but that was before W came to ... well ... whatever he's come to. Reagan was a pretty paliid pussyfooting pterodactyl, compared to big bully Bush baby. Also in 1985, Mikhail Gorbachev became the leader of the USSR.

The 49ers still had a team, beating Miami in the Super Bowl. The Cardinals were in the World Series, but lost to Kansas City. Madonna was "like a virgin."

I had four kids running 'round -- the oldest turned 12, and (b)abe turned 11. I was working at the same program where I work now. Good gig. PCs were just starting to hit the market, although Macs had been on the scene for a couple years. I'm still a Mac flack.

Notre Dame was eight years out from its last national championship and three years away from its next. It has been a while, and 2006 looks good.

Enough about the past. Here's to the future! Happy New Year to all.

Yea- they looked like real champs (chumps?) in the bowl game the other day.

Seems like Rock isn't just a guy with some political disagreements. Seems like he's just generally disagreeable. Give me your address, Rock. I'll send you a Christmas card or something to cheer you up!

As for ND, they lost to a superior football team. I still think they look great for next year, with all of their key players returning.

I'm not a generally disagreeable guy. It just seems that you often are on the opposite side of any issue or back a team I don't think is that good. I suppose you're a Yankees fan too, right? I don't think ND is anything special. They might have a decent year next year. It just seems that they get lauded by many just because they are Notre Dame- no other reason. Most people gave Texas no chance against USC last night either. Many said the Longhorns didn't even deserve to be on the same field with Leinart and Bush & company. I'd say they were wrong.

Rock, I'm a Notre Dame fan for the same reason I'm a Griz fan -because I went to school there. And because my dad's an Irish alumn. And his uncle teaches there. And two cousins went there. It's in the blood, sir.

I hate the Yankees and I won 20 bucks by betting on Texas last night. Ever since ND lost the Fiesta Bowl, I was damn near certain that Texas would win the Rose Bowl. What a phenomenal game.

Being an Alum is a good excuse to be a fan. You'd be a traitor not to back them in that case. I still don't see them even being top ten material next season though. I won't fault you for being hopeful. I just think it'll be in vain.
