Here's a letter going to a local, independent weekly. It addresses the Administration's hypocrisy:
Newsweek ran a brief item about interrogators desecrating the Quran at Guitanamo Bay. People in the Islamic world reacted strongly. Newsweek retracted the article, although no one has said it was flat wrong -- just that the source was weak. Newsweek should have been more vigorous in confirming the information.
Into the fray struts the Bush Administration. Condoleza Rice calls the story "appalling." Donald Rumsfeld bemoans, "People lost their lives."
What is appalling is Rumsfeld's chiding of Newsweek: "People need to be very careful about what they say, just as they need to be careful about what they do." Do we need this kind of advice from the Secretary of Defense, the man prosecuting our disastrous engagement in Iraq?
And get this from White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan: "The report had real consequences. People lost their lives. Our image abroad has been damaged." Wait! Is he talking about the Newsweek story or the war in Iraq?
The only thing I can admire about the Bush Administration is the unprecedented combination of stupidity and gall that it consistently displays.
Classic. "anonymous" from Bricker & Eckler calls me a pussy for - what? - thinking actual torture by our military is more important than a news story with questionable sourcing?
Sorry, "anonymous" from Bricker & Eckler. Perhaps someday I can gather the courage to stand up with you in your bold anonymous support for the Bush Administration's priorities.

Johnny Piano
McCellan is talking about the Newsweek article considering he says: "The report had real consequences..."
Just answering your question.
"What have they done to our country?"
You pussy.
