Jockeying for Position
As an alternative to Hillary in '08, the Dems could do a lot worse than run with this guy.
I don't belong to any organized political party; I'm a Democrat.

Bayh would be a much smarter choice for Democrats than Hillary. He's not as well known and that might be a plus in this case. Most people either love or actively hate Hillary.
As a Bill Clinton lover, follower, worshipper, I don't feel too much for Hillary. I agree that she should not and cannot be our candidate.
But why the hate, Rock? She's a smart, successful woman, who actually was the victim in the whole Monica-gate thing.
What gives? I'd love to have someone fill me in it one of these days.
I can answer that for Rock. How could you hate a victim like Hillary?; An individual that persevered to get herself through Yale Law, not to mention multiple esteemed accomplishments. Well, my friend, have a seat and lets talk for a bit. It all started with the oppression of Native Americans and the enslaving of Africans. You see, the conservatives of this country have always despised political correctness because it takes away from the white man some of his powers and control. Nobody could honestly argue that some people are lesser that others, could they? The Republicans do, even today. I would dare say that during the 1860s as Lincoln and J. Davis battled the N and S, today’s Republican Party would likely have supported Mr. Davis. I say this because of the way they treated integration in the 50's and 60s, 70s and 80's. I also say this because of the way they treat homosexuals today. It’s what they are about. They enjoy the hierarchical system where one type retains power and privilege (all along fooling the poorer and some minorities that they are something different). As a Latino, I see it everyday. Especially in Texas. That’s not to say I complain, it bothers me little, individually. But for others less privileged than me, that is where I fight the fight. Maybe I should only care about myself, individual SS accts would be great for me, cutting off welfare also a plus, less taxation for me, support the Iraq war, I know I am not going, its pretty cool to see all those bombs go off. Huh, You know, screw selflessness: FROM THIS DAY FORWARD, LET IT BE KNOWN TO EVERY HUMAN AND BEAST ON THIS GREAT EARTH AND EVERY ALIEN BEING IN THE UNIVERSE, THANKS TO MY ESTEEMED COLLEAGUE ROCKY B. SMITH, I DECLARE MYSELF A PROUD CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICAN.
I don't really hate the woman. I just happen to disagree with her on a lot of things. I also lost much respect for her when she happily stayed married to wild Bill even after the 14th or 15th time he cheated on her. I'm not a woman, but I think that would piss me off too much to stick around.
I don't want my health care nationalised like Hilly wants. I know people who live or lived in Canada and England. Want to talk health care with them? They'll probably open your eyes to the false promise of nationalised health care and the bigger problems it brings.
Hillary and the Dems act like there is no problem with Social Security when even Bill said there is a coming crisis back in'98. I'm not sure Bush's plan is the best, but burying your head in the sand and doing nothing is DEFINITELY not a solution! I heard Bush say in his speech last night that EVERYTHING is on the table and that if someone has a better idea, he'd be willing to listen. Parading around a statue of FDR sure isn't going to fix the problem. While he MIGHT not be right in his solution, at least he is taking the issue to the people, not grandstanding for the press in front of a statue of the Democrat's God.
On the other hand, if I was Bill, I'd probably be chasing other skirts around too. Hillary does seem a bit bitchy.
Nice try 3GL. Check out which party rescued the civil rights bill in 1964 and which party voted en-masse against it. Without the support of Republicans, LBJ would have never gotten to sign that bill into law. Ask Al Gore to tell you why his father voted against it. I'd like to know that one myself. You liberals are all supportive of minorities unless they are conservative. Then they are parriahs. It's not the skin color in the end- its the political persuasion. Sure, there were and still are some kooks on the right that treat minorities and gays badly. I suppose that defines EVERY conservative? Would you like to be defined by some of the kooks on the left? You have at least as many on your side of the aisle. Admit it.
As a conservative I am for promoting self-reliance and freedom for ALL people. I'm not against a safety net for those who need it. Some Democrat ideas have been good and some bad. The same is true of Republicans. Government programs just don't happen to be the answer to every problem.
And I'm not for trying to hold down minorities of any type. Equal opportunity and equal protection for all. I'm a bit insulted that you suggest I want to hold back anyone. Gee- if I was just for higher taxes and more government control I'd almost be a Democrat!
Come on Rock, do you honestly want us here at 2GL to believe that your party is the party of progression? Let me reiterate our mantra in case you missed it:
"A Conservative is a man with two good legs who has not learned to walk forward."
Conservatives like myself would like to see the less fortunate to be shown the way to make good on their own and succeed in the American dream. We don't wish to hold anyone back. I am not a racist and find it insulting when liberals suggest that being a conservative makes me one.
I am not against a safety net for those in need, but many liberal programs have entrapped poor people in needing the government to solve all their problems. THAT is the main difference. I want to teach them how to fish on their own. You want the best fishermen to give up nearly half their catch to feed those who can't fish. After all, they are rotten bastards who got more fish than they deserved- right? Just because they went out and caught those fish on their own, doesn't mean they deserve them? They probably stole them from the poor anyway, right?
I walk forward just fine, thank you. I just don't do it the way you want me to. Who made you guys the experts on how life should be lived anyway? Your condescending know it all attitude tells a lot about you. While you haven't come right out and said it, you suggest that I am prejudiced. I have friends who are of many races. I don't judge them on their skin color. I also happened to notice that they do just fine without the government holding their hand.
I also noticed that you can't deny that LBJ would never have gotten to sign the Civil Rights act of 1964 into law were it not for Republicans. Tough pill to swallow?
