Hillary and the Big One
I like Hillary Clinton. For some reason, she drives Republicans into babbling fits, which I don't quite understand. Maybe because they prefer that their lady politicians act like this. I really don't know.
In any event, she is the first politician who has adequately framed the abortion issue in a way I can relate to. The goal is zero abortions in this country. They are sad and tragic. The goal is zero. The question is: how do we get there?
Hint: Forcing women into back alleys is the wrong answer.

The ONLY reason she framed things on abortion the way she did is to flee to the political center (a place she is unfamiliar with) so she can run for president in '08. I hope you libs nominate her. Is there a more polarizing person in the democratic party today? NOPE!
You're probably right, Rock. She probably loves abortions. Thanks for your keen insight.
I didn't suggest that Hilly LOVES abortions. I suggested that she is trying to move her butt to the political middle. Even the piece you linked to suggests that she is trying to moderate the pro-choice position to be more palletable to those who are less leftist. You might be suprised to find out that she is moving toward MY position. I don't think abortion should be banned outright. I only think we should try all we can to reduce the number that are performed each year. I'm not a happy fan of abortions and I don't think any of you liberals are either. It is a choice which must be made at times. I think they happen too often and are sometimes just another option for birth control. Still, they must remain an option- and since I am a MAN, I don't have as much a right to form policy on it. I would like to add input to the debate but it's a women's issue. I'll never become pregnant (or I'll get rich and famous if I do). See- I'm pro-choice. I guess I don't fit into your right wing nut pigeon hole as well as you'd like?
Or maybe you do. . .
If Hillary has just eloquently stated a position with which you wholeheartedly agree, why not cheer her vision? Why not say it's about time someone took that exact position? Instead you say the "ONLY reason" she said it is - not because she might actually... gasp!... believe it! - but because she's jockeying for office. Can you tell me one thing she has ever said or done that is inconsistent with the position she outlined in that speech? Didn't think so.
It's just that weird hatred of Hillary coming out of you, buddy. I fully expected it.
I think there is more common ground between most Americans than the Republican Party would like for us think. Too bad they win elections through deceit and division. But lets be angry at ourselves for not learning to beat them at this game. You can not control their actions, but we can adjust and control our actions. I think Balboa's comments exemplifies this tactic by the right, make us seem like baby killers and scare the rural folks into voting for them. Scary thing is, informed folks like Balboa actually believe the deceit. Now that is a party loyalist.
Believe the deceit? I don't see any deceit in believing that abortion is killing a potential person. I just don't happen to think that banning them is the right thing to do. Remember your back alley arguement? That is part of what sways me toward keeping abortions legal. Sometimes it is just necessary. That doesn't mean I like it. There is no deceit in that. I simply can't agree with many conservatives on this, that's all. Do you steadfastly back EVERYTHING in your party's platform? I doubt it.
