Jesus Gets Behind Boycott: This is Important
Various conservative religious groups have organized boycotts on retailers who take a neutral stance on religious displays in their stores during the Holiday Season. The retailers, most notably Macy's, simply have chosen to not commit to a particular religious set of views. I would think this inaction is out of respect for employees, merchants and customers. And What do the Christians do? They attempt to hurt retailer's revenues by encouraging other Christians to not purchase from stores of this sort. Do you think Jesus Christ is in line with these actions by "Christians"? I remember from my Catechism classes Jesus telling us through Matthew at Chapter 6:
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11Give us today our daily bread. 12Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."
This is right next to the Lord's Prayer, so he must have meant it........
As a practicing Christian with a strong Faith, I am appalled and disgusted with these folks who are hijacking my Christian philosophy. Some fights are better not fought and this is one of them. Religion and preserving the ideals of Christianity aside, isn't this un-American as hell? The choice or no choice at all to exhibit religious beliefs is what is unbelievably awesome about the mighty USA and citizens of this country should not punish for exercise of our freedoms!!
I encourage the boycotters to read a book or two on the middle east, maybe Iraq's destruction of the Kurds. Maybe read about the Jews gassed in Nazi Germany. Maybe read about the Medieval Crusades and the killing of tons of Muslims. Religious tolerance is good for humanity.
Come on folks, get a clue,.....here is the story

I think Christian groups have a right to be upset. It has become "okay" to pick on Christians as a group while we must be very careful not to upset those who are not. It is bad to have "Merry Christmas" shown anywhere? Someone might get offended? Apparently the only group whom we don't worry about offending is the Christians.
I have no problem with Haunakkah, Ramadan, Quanza or whatever other holiday you might want to come up with. Feel free to celebrate it and tell me about it. I'm not threatened. I just want to know why Christians have to shut up about theirs. Respect? Respect ALL- not just the minorities. I'm not going to stay out of a store if they put up a happy Quanza sign. Celebrate diversity, don't quash it!
Rock, you've missed the point again, buddy. I'm not going to stay out of a store if it says Merry Christmas. Neither am I going to stay out of a store because it DOESN'T say Merry Christmas.
It's just the show-Christians doing their regular schtick. Fools.
Rocky say what you want on this forum, the one thing I do request out of your comments is to discuss the issue I framed in my post. For instance, the bolded Bible verse was important, but you ignored it. And why is Christianity being attacked? Who said anything about attacking, its about evolving as humans to respect other human beings who are different. I could go all my life without a Christmas Holiday, Easter, Lent, etc, because I don't need my religion to be publicized to feel confident practicing it. Now go and boycott so you can convince yourself that Christianity is the correct religion. Gotta go, gotta go suck the blood out of a goats neck.
Did I say I was going to boycott? No, I didn't. You assume much. In my view, the issue boils down to our society being ramrodded into total secularism. I'm not against anyone else's religion and believe everyone has a right to speak their views in public. It's called freedom of speech and religion. You are uncomfortable with these things being done in public? That's your right. Of course your rights don't trump those of others. Some, (not I) believe they are directed to evangelize in the public arena. Are they right to do so? I'm not qualified to judge. I know they have a right to. See the first amendment.
I didn't ignore your citation from the Bible. Sorry I didn't speak to it more directly.
You are not allowed to not comment on the verse. I don't claim to follow the Bible word for word, follow it closely or follow it strictly. I am believer in the fundamental philosophy of JC. Is that a religion or a way to live life....I don't know. But those who boycott stores that, have a const. right to post nothing, claim to be following the lord or following Christ to help spread his message. But, what about that verse, can we ignore it because it doesn't fit what we, as humans, believe religion to be......oh such a loaded question that you should ponder not respond......
I don't believe that espousing your beliefs and evangelizing in public is the same thing as praying to God in public. I don't pray for public consumption. I don't think that boycotting stores is anywhere equal to it either. If anyone is saying that Jesus supports their boycott then they are fools. They cannot speak for him. They do have a right to boycott and work against the liberal effort to totally secularize our society.
Of course none of you liberals do any boycotting for personal or moral reasons, do you? Christians have the same rights as you do. Try as you might, you can't shut them up.
Why do they care though? Does their religion require safety in numbers. Are they afraid if the USA becomes "securlized", as you coin it, their religion will be nothing more than mythical thoughts? Isn't religion a personal thing anyway? Why do we need messages in malls or courtrooms. Does that strengthen the faith in a religion that appears to have many flaws? Or better yet, do the Religious Right simply need an argument against someone so they can convince themselves?.........yahtzee.....bingo.....
Attend, kneel, pray and believe, but do it on your watch, have confidence in your beliefs, question your faith and if you come back, well, my friend, in my best southern drawl, thats a beautiful thing.......eeehhh haa
I don't want to shut them up, I would simply like to put them on a rocket and shoot them to space. Seriously, I don't advocate shutting people up in this great country. I advocate enlightenment and show-Christians(thanks Abe, I will add that to my vernacular)refuse to question themselves.
My Karma ran over your Dogma.....tee tee
