Go Fool Yourself
Last month, we at 2GL mentioned a strange bit that your Vice President told the American people in an effort to convince us that Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden were once conjoined twins:
BORGER: Do you know things that the commission does not know?
Vice Pres. CHENEY: Probably.
Of course, the 9-11 Commission's curiousity was piqued:
The commission chairman, Thomas H. Kean, a former Republican governor of New Jersey, and the vice chairman, Lee H. Hamilton, a former Democratic House member from Indiana, then called on Mr. Cheney to turn over any reports that would support the White House's insistence of links between Iraq and Al Qaeda.
Then they waited.
And listened as Cheney continued to hack out the same old recycled claims of non-collaborative contacts between Al Qaeda and Iraq.
Finally, the Commission has had enough:
In a one-sentence statement, the panel's chairman and vice chairman said that "after examining available transcripts of the vice president's public remarks, the 9/11 commission believes it has access to the same information the vice president has seen regarding contacts between Al Qaeda and Iraq prior to the 9/11 attacks."
In other words, the Commission has determined that when Cheney said he "probably" had information that the Commission didn't have, Cheney was "probably" full of yellowcake.
Now read this, and remember... this man is your leader:
A spokesman for Mr. Cheney, Kevin Kellems, said on Tuesday that the White House welcomed the statement, calling it proof that the White House had fully cooperated in providing the panel all available intelligence relevant to its work.
Please follow along at home:
(1) Cheney says the Commission was wrong and that there was actually a general relationship between Iraq and Al Qaeda
(2) Cheney says he knows better than the Commission because he has some information they don't have
(3) the Commission asks for this extra information, then determines that Cheney actually doesn't have any
(4) Cheney publicly pats himself on the back for turning over all of his information like a good boy.
If you enjoy being treated like a fool, vote for this man in November.
